Not the client but the *server* should do the updates.
Surely its the DHCP client (or equivalent if we're using SAMBA) that manages the IP addresses that should be doing this?
That is the purpose and job of the DNS *server* _not_ the client.
That's certainly the way I've done it and its the way I see it documented.
