However, you forced me to do some further checking. There is now such thing on packman that I can see as a win32codec. However, what I do have installed from packman is w32codec-all-20061022-0.pm.0
So, you have the w32 codecs installed - then why do you say that kaffeine works fine without them? Of course, kaffeine will "work" to some degree out of the box, but without the w32 codecs, you won't be able to play quicktime, wmv, etc, and without libdvdcss, you won't be able to watch DVDs.
