Well, that was the right advice. I had to manually run the install_bcm43xx_firmware command, but after that, wireless started working. Maybe the suse guys should talk to the ubuntu guys and find out how they made it all just automagically work in hardy heron... I'll be comparing the 2 distros on the laptop - but my initial impression is that if you want a solid kde experience, it's best to go with suse.
