FWIW, with GotoMeeting, Cisco Webex and Jitsi, it runs in the browser.
I don't know about others, but "meet" (jitsi) in my laptops uses so much CPU that the sound stutters (with several people in the room). On the much more powerful desktop computer, the load is minimal. I just tried google meet between desktop and laptop, and I did not need to install anything. Load is high, but with one user it works fine, same as jitsi. More options. It has captions! I did not try zoom, it needs registration and I did not want to bother.
