The binaries for htdig, htsearch, and htmerge indeed exist and are referenced correctly from the index page. But now I've gotten another clue: The directory where the databases are stored (/opt/www/htdig/db) is writable only by root. I could, of course, go in and change the permissions manually, but that seems dangerous. I seem to remember that in an older version of KDE, root had to prepare the index; an ordinary user couldn't do it. But there was a way to get that to happen from an ordinary login if you had the root password. Now (in 2.2beta1) I can't find anything like that. Paul
