I'm glad to help and write the bugs, but I'm really left scratching my head of how these type of bugs are were still present on the verge of the .3 release of the desktop. A large majority of the bugs are simply "broken" or "missing kde3 functionality". There are literally a thousand more of these things that need fixing. **None of this make kde4 unusable** Far from it - kde4 works really well, but there is a LOT of work to do to get rid of (1) missing and broken kde3 features and (2) the garden variety annoyances. (kde3 had its share as well) kde4.3 will be the better for it if the kde folks make an honest attempt to resolve a bulk of the outstanding issues before the official 4.3 release. This isn't a bash of kde4, I have switched to 4.3 beta 2 as my primary desktop and I am quite happy with it. What is needed now -- is for everyone else to go load it and work with it as their desktop for a week or two ... and ... during that time, each time a broken part is found -- go author a bug at kde.org. It may take 10-20 minutes to collect and properly file the bug, but it you commit to 1 per day, there are 30 issues reported in a months time. That way theses annoying "missing features" and "functionality" bugs can be fixed by 4.3 or 11.2 (whichever is first). The "missing feature" and "broken functionality" bugs are critical to get authored and get fixed at this point. It is quite frustrating -- really. It is obvious after a month of doing this that kde4 was coded backwards. (IMHO) The development resources were prioritized to (1) "make it pretty" then (2) "build in core functionality" instead of (1) "build in and debug core functionality" and then (2) "make it pretty". It just seems like the long way around. I don't know, maybe it had to be done that way? That debate is now irrelevant. KDE4 is at the point where it has gone all the way around and, regardless of the path taken, is in really good shape in 4.3 beta 2; is a great desktop; and just needs the "use" and "bug reporting" feedback to knock out the rest of the annoying "missing-broken kde3 features", "run-of-the-mill", and "garden variety" bugs. Don't take this as gloom and doom, hell no... KDE4 is looking damn good, and works well. Now it needs "use" and "bug reporting" to "get it right". -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
