There are a LOT of problems with Asus boards - so much so, that I WON'T buy them and haven't for along time!! Buy Tyan and get a MUCH better made board and one that will work properly.
I've not heard that ASUS recent QC is any better or worse than anyone else's, but dismal support directed at Linux users is reason enough to look elsewhere. http://www.mozillaquest.com/Linux04/Asus_Sucks_Story-01.html
I was such a fan of ASUS Motherboards. Currently I own a P4P800 Deluxe, and all works well (SuSE 9.3). But, I will sure have a completely different attitude towards ASUS on my next purchases...
It's just too difficult and expensive for me to go hunting for another mainboard that might work and might not - I'll stick with Asus. If they discontinue the models that I use I'll reconsider. The only thing that I'm a fan of is equipment that doesn't make me crazy trying to make work... beyond that, I couldn't care less what the brand is or where it's made.
