In trying to solve why I can no longer boot from the DVD drive I've come across something I find rather strange. In the BIOS I choose to boot from CDROM at first device and set the 2nd and 3rd devices to disable. Reboot the system and it stalls at the Boot from CDROM for a minute or so then the computer presents me the multiple choices of various linux system to run. I next disabled all the boot devices in the BIOS and the system presents me with the screen showing the different linux systems to run. I don't understand how grub is accessed by the bios since I disabled and the boot devices. (BTW my computer is over 5 years old and does not allow booting from a usb device.) Can anyone explain this behavior?
