How old is that scanner? It sounds like one that my dad used to have. We also concluded it was from below. He tossed it and got an HP. Is it possible that your scanner just died? I know it is evil but perhaps you could test it on a Windows PC?

That's the "downer", it works PERFECT in Windoze.

Duaine, I have a Mustek UB1200 Plus and it works fine with SANE. You need the GT68xx frontends package. I'm pretty sure that is included as standard now - it used to be a separate download/compile from the SANE web page. You'll also need the firmware file from your windows driver (sbfw.usb) which was also downloadable from the GT68xx page. That file needs to go into /lib/firmware. There also used to be a bug whereby you had to be logged on as root when you plugged the scanner in in order for it to be correctly recognised and initialised, but I believe that was fixed some time ago because I haven't had that problem in ages (not since oS 10.3 at least). HTH. Rodney. BTW, the GT68xx page on the SANE web site had lots of good info about what was supported and not.
