Hi, if you are root, you should be able to use mc to change the permissions. Highlight the /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file in mc, then hit <control><x> <c>, that is control+x then c. Then set the properties to read-write by owner, group and others. That is 666. Do it for chap-secrets also. Then run wvdial once, and it will properly write your chap-secrets and pap-secrets. Then use mc to change those permissions back to 600, which is read-write by owner. In mc, <control><x> <o> will let you change ownerships.
