Ummm.. that is.. it's that way in 4.4.... is Stan using 4.3.5? Is it different there?
This is kde 4.3.5, because that's what the DVD installed. I have not had the time to venture into far-reaching upgrades, because I am spending an enormous amount of time on simply trying to get things to be usable.
Which is likely to be time not so well spent. There were literally thousands of bugs opened on KDE4.3 and a significant number of them were fixed on the way to 4.4 and 4.5Beta. Some of those bugs included adding missing functionality.
Understood.
I haven't used 4.3 in a very long time because of this.
Rule 1 with KDE4... Don't try to make it KDE3. That will not work. you will end up being totally frustrated and annoyed.
I tumbled to that very quickly, and never did anything in that direction.
Rule 2 with KDE4... upgrade to the latest Factory build. It's worth it, and it's stable. A significant number of the annoyances in the 4.2 and 4.3 versions have been fixed. There are still more to go, but the desktop is VERY usable in the 4.4 and up versions.
I can see that that is the way to go if I stay with kde.
Rule 3 with KDE4... see Rule 1. KDE4 works differently than KDE3. It is NOT KDE 3.6.
Pity.
As for the KMail settings, it's possible to fiddle with the options to get the old flat view back. I know it's there because I've done it. It's in the Tools > Configure KMail options menu somewhere. That combined with some right clicking here and there, and I had it back to the flat view.... what those clicks were though, I cannot remember.
And I would add that there is much more to the story of kde3 > kde4, but it is unfortunately too late to correct it..I think that the all could have been handled better, had there been some sort of external oversight over the team. I think that, in the absence of such oversight, the team was/is a loose cannon. But again, too late for that now. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
