I was avoiding manually editing the file because IIRC a manually edited file takes that file out from under SuSEConfig's control. I don't have a list of all the files it applies to, but I do recall it being an issue [God knows how long ago].
No, it doesn't break.
You can edit, manually, any value in any file under "/etc/sysconfig/", and then apply the changes using "SuSEconfig". It works. If the next time you use YaST, it will also work - and if it doesn't, it is a bug.
What it breaks is, for instance, if you edit the "/etc/postfix" files instead of "/etc/sysconfig/postfix". From that point SuSEconfig will notice the manual change and refuse to apply its own changes.

Thanks Carlos, That was the issue. SuSEConfig must be really P.O.'ed with me then, because I edit just about everything in /etc manually :-D -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
