Hello All, I have been a SuSE user since 6.4 and have subscribed off and on to this list. I have a problem that I would like some help with: I recently moved my hardware of my server, running SuSE 9.0 with one mounted hDD, HDA, and a running, but unmounted HDD, HDB, to a new case only. The only thing I did not move was one of 2 SCSI tape drives. Initially, everything ran just fine, but it would not do updates. Then after about 48 hrs, the machine hung and I could not unhang it, except by rebooting, then the hardware hung when bringing up the HDDs. I reset it and all went well until it got to Grub and then it just booted to a grub> and nothing was mounted. It is trying to boot HDB, but there is no grub or boot sector on that drive, What is the best way to recover from this? I can mount the partitions on HDA, but I notice no /boot/grub directory. (/boot is there). Should I run a recover from the install disc or should I boot from the install CD and then run grub-install /dev/hda. Grub was originally put in the MBR of /dev/hda. Thanks and awaiting your help. I may not be able to get back to you right away. --Keith -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
