Check the kernel log, and also the boot log.
cdrecord: Cannot fixate disk. Fixating time: 0.002s cdrecord: fifo had 65 puts and 2 gets. cdrecord: fifo was 0 times empty and 1 times full, min fill was 98%.

Try also with xcdroast. And try a different type of media - sometimes I get strange errors when I buy a new name: they fail a lot, and then I use another trade mark, and they work perfectly. You can try also to reduce the speed. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
