Same here. Drive /dev/hdb is an 8.4 GB drive and fdisk gives the same error message. My root partition is on /dev/hda2. Other than the fdisk error message the system is running fine.

Sorry for the confused problem description, but does this make sense to anyone? Is an 8 Gb drive perhaps too big for Linux ?
I currently have an 8.4Gb IBM drive and have no problems under Linux /boot is /dev/hda2 since I have DOS at /dev/hda1. My other partitions start at /dev/hda5 since I use one large extended /dev/hda3 for all the other logical partitions where I have swap /opt /home and /. I'm not sure what SMB is but I don't think it is related to the drive size. I also have the fdisk warning about cyl 1027 vs 1024.
