I just booted my system with a new USB drive (local store branded version from CompUSA) on my 9.3 Pro system (ran YOU prior to this so patches, etc ... are rather current). It mounted as /media/usbdisk. I have a Western Digital USB drive and a DVD burner also on the system (all USB 2.0). The WD USB drive has 777 as the directory permissions and mounted as WD_USB_2. I see that the new drive (CompUSA drive) is owned by root and permissions are 700 - so only root has access to it. I don't recall setting the WD drive permissions but I suspect I did this a long time ago. That seems a bit scary to me. I'd rather have unknown or previously not access devices be cordoned off so there could be no damage/access until I grant it. Am I wrong? I'd like to change the defaults to be something like nobody as the owner and 600 as the permissions. Two questions: 1) Where would I set the mounting defaults? 2) Thoughts on my paranoia or desire to limit new devices??
