8 GB isn't supported at all. For 4 GB there are several choices and patches (changing the split between user and kernel space or using the memory for ramdisk). Supporting more than 4 GB most likely will re-introduce some concepts well known as EMM
IBM quad mother boards at all?
We have experience with quad boxes, but not with more than 2 GB of RAM
