Mine is compact flash, not smart media, but this works for me:
modprobe usb-storage mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /camera (or whatever mount point you want)
Well after many hours of fooling with this command, fstab file and few others I decided to plug the reader into the USB port that my printer is on and I know works. Guess what? The reader works fine. So maybe the USB port on the front of my computer is bad. Either way I can get my pics. Thanks to everyone for the help!
