SuSE 5.3 thinks the time is one hour ahead of the truth.
When I set the time, as root, using "date 01302013" (as I've been in the habit with all prior Linux installations) this time is used until the next reboot, at which point the date has been changed to Jan 30 21:15:23 PST 1999. The "PST" part is right, and /etc/rc.config has "America/Los_Angeles" for its TIMEZONE, but the clock is clobbered every time upon reboot. It makes no difference if I reboot with init 6, or halt and then hit the reset button, except in the latter case, the clock seems to have a small error in the minutes as well as being the hour fast.
What's going on; how do I fix this so I have the right time?
FWIW, my reg ID is JUNJJR; I've never been given a customer #, although I've sent in my card and registered on the website.
After you set the time, you need to write it to the hardware clock. Othwise it'll continue to get the wrong time from the hardware clock. To set the hardware clock, as root do clock -w. -------------------------------------------- Brad Shelton bshelton@ole.net On Line Exchange <A HREF="http://ole.net"><A HREF="http://ole.net</A">http://ole.net</A</A>> Detroit News <A HREF="http://detnews.com"><A HREF="http://detnews.com</A">http://detnews.com</A</A>> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
