Rpm is rather like a GM drive train (engine, transmission, wheels, axles). Zypper is like a body (sheet metal, controls, seats, stereo, trunk) wrapped around the drive train (e.g. Chevrolet) that enables the drive train to be both friendly and useful. There are other bodies for Rpm, such as Yum (e.g. Buick) and Urpmi (e.g. Cadillac).
But one doubt is that in openSUSE 12.2 (which I have installed), when I updated from Yast (after entering the root password), I was able to udpate the system and it more required any change (since it was fully updated to the latest). I opened the terminal and typed 'su' and became root. Now I typed 'zypper up' and a wonder, it was saying around 126 MBs of updation required. What this update was about which Yast was not able to do? Thanks. -- Life and death. At some point we're gonna leave this world. Do I know when?
