Printing Vista -> Samba/Cups should work just fine. After setting up samba/cups, all I did in vista was use windows explorer -> network neighborhood -> microsoft networks -> BARROWHILLFARM -> printers (and then double-click on the printer, and choose the driver you need, and then test with print test page) You may also want to grab a wireshark trace of the communications with the printer to see if that points to anything weird.
