Great! This has always driven me crazy. I need to run Windows to test our applications. Even though I build/package the Windows versions on openSUSE via MinGW, a real world test is occasionally needed. I really dislike it...
Isn't this a cry for a VM? ;-)
You would think so. But our company is very Windows-centric (except my little group of Linux weirdos). Being a company of over 10000, Windows installs are done automatically via a centralized server. And, that server refuses to work with VMs. It used to. But when they went with Windows 7, they did a few odd things. Part of this is related to tighter license control by Microsoft.
The company will not pay for a different install media of Windows 7. And I am sure not going to pay for it myself. I spend no money on Windows if I don't need to! They say I should just give in and use Windows. I suspect you know the drill.
So, I run windows on my laptop using the Windows 7 partition that came with it. I also have openSUSE on this laptop, as it is my preferred environment. If I could cannibalize the Windows partition so it could be run in, say, VirtualBox, I would be very happy.
Just a thought. I also have a need to run MS windows for a couple of apps. What I did was get a copy of the install media from MS (possible if you have a license). I then used that to install in VB using the license code from the sticker on the laptop. I still run on the same hardware so no license issues involved. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
