For GNU Octave, see a SuSE 8.1 FTP mirror, eg. ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/ftp.suse.com/i386/8.1/suse/i586 You should see octave-2.1.36-36.i586.rpm It looks like Octave was one of the packages left off the CDs, but included in the FTP version. It is not listed in INDEX.gz or at http://www.suse.de/us/private/products/suse_linux/i386/packages_professional... I answered the same question last month. The answer really should be in a FAQ. SuSE has a couple of pat answers for this type of question (see below), but I don't see how they apply to Octave, since Octave is GPL.
