Is this the custom software for the UseNext Usenet provider?
Yes, this is UseNext's main software. The big problem is that everyone in the software / Tech office is a windows user and really does not understand Linux. I think that they just pass on the Linux version from the programmers without even checking it.
That's fairly common with many companies that make a Linux version... they often do zero QA, instead simply lobbing it over the wall. Some have caught on that this doesn't work, and they work at cleaning it up... and they often get it right. Laminar Research (make X-Plane) have done that... the Linux version (of the installer) was horrible in the past, but they worked hard on it and got it cleaned up... works great now
I worked customer service at UseNext in 2011.
Aha, then you have the inside track :-) All I have to go on when I research companies is what I read online... and UseNext didn't look good compared to the competitors. Seeing the other side of the story is helpful.
Looks the same to me, durn it! Oh well, I have the Windows version working on my netbook, so at least I'm not dead in the water.
If it's locked to a specific Mono version... don't know. You might get away with forcing it, but... I wouldn't recommend that on anything but a test install (ie in VirtualBox). Does their client offer anything that is above and beyond existing clients (like Pan)?
