Hi, I would do what I believe it should be a hassle-free procedure, working in most cases: 1) before physically replacing the card in the machine: 1.1) set up the machine to boot to run level 3 (i.e., networking WITHOUT KDM): - launch YaST, then from the group "System" click on "Runlevel editor" icon; then, from the first dialog that shows up, select from the "Set default level after booting to:" popup menu, the item "3: Full mutiuser with network", then click "Finish". 2) halt the machine, replace the card, then fire up the machine 3) after booting (into the console directly, i.e., into run level 3 as it has been set up before) login as root and run sax or SaX2, depending on whether you run the XFree86 v3 or v4 (normally, you could run just 'sax' and it will let you know which version of XFree86 is currently in use). If everything goes OK, this will automagically detect the new card, and offer a valid X11 configuration. After (succesfully) running sax you may re-test the new settings by launching 'startx' from the command prompt. If KDE (or any X session) comes up then you're ready for the next step 4) run YaST again, and revert to run level "5: Full multiuser with network and KDM" 5) reboot and enjoy your new card Good luck! Hi All,
I have a friend who has installed SuSE 8.0, and lets assume you have a Trident Video card when you start, and lets say you want to replace said card with say a ATI Rage Pro 3D, etc. How is this procedure done correctly, so that everything in X11 and KDE still works properly?
