Because I generally prefer to use the distro's packages.
torbrowser-launcher does exactly that - it connects to tor.org on the first time and downloads tor browser from this site. So the only extra bonus is menu entry that you can also create yourself. After initial download tor browser will update itself as usual.
Yes, also when you do it from the website. So, why would I delegate even only one step of the process to a third party if I can avoid it. Every intermediatary is a supplemental Komplexity. Every Komplexity needs trust, and with every act of trust you give away control to third parties. This is why I do not understand the choice. YMMV.
One difference may be that the openSUSE rpm would be available to all users of the system. I have installed the tor bundle previously, and the binary is inside my home.
And it is not updated automatically, I have version 5.5.1 There has been an disruption of the version. The current one is way ahead, since two versions the bundle proposes to update through a secure channel. It works well, you should update with the most recent binary. The current bundle checks if a new version is available and warns you before browsing. I am using the latest alfa 7 hardened. Came out about two days ago.
