There is no way to open files from a network share WITHIN a application in Linux [except for mounting them in a local folder or through Kounquerer(spell?)...]
Yes users even copy-paste files from with-in the application !! They have their application ruuning all day (say autocad or excel) and they wont bother to open Explorer unless it needed.
Still missing your exact problem, but all kde applications are network transparent. So, you can in the file open dialog specify a directory with: - fish:\\login:passwd@server\path - ftp:\\login:passwd@server\path - smb:\\server\... etc, etc. Saving works the same way. If OOo uses kde's file dialog, this should be possible with OOo too. Checkout kinfocenter for all possibilities. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
