I must be dense. I've been trying to get Dovecot 2.0 going, but I can't even get it to connect. To keep things simple, I'm just using plain IMAP port 143. I'VE tried both passwd& shadow authentication. With passwd, I get a password error, but nothing happens with shadow.
Take this to the [Dovecot] list. I've found the people there very helpful and very well informed.

While better, it still has a way to go. I find Dovecot to be extremely frustrating to set up. It seems to be a matter of trial & error following "suggestions" in the very poor documentation. I have previously installed UoW IMAP and it's much easier. With 1.2, I can at least communicate to the server, though I have yet to figure out how to use encrypted passwords or have folders such as "Sent" and "Drafts". I haven't yet been able to get another computer to talk to it either and there is no firewall to get in the way.
