Hi, folks,
Anyone have experience with OpenSuSE (whatever except Enterprise) and Dell PowerEdge server with SAS5/i or PERC5 RAID controllers? Most important thing - is kernel driver built into Linux kernel, or must be compiled/loaded separately? I’m going to use Leap 42.1 64bit.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).
I don't know 100%, but in general the PERC drivers are built-in. I think they are normally boot time loadable modules, but that shouldn't matter. More specifically, the PERCs are pure hardware raid controllers in my experience, so during boot they present a normal disk controller interface and the logical volumes appear to the kernel to be physical volumes. Where you need advanced features is to manage the RAID volumes, but that is done with userspace tools, not the kernel.
