Hi, that's the answer. I took out the Nvidia packages described and rebooted, and now things work again. lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display' shows that nouveau is once again the video driver. I'm not sure why those Nvidia packages were installed while doing an update, but now that they are gone everything is back to normal. [...]
Well, I tried this:
poppies:~ # zypper install-new-recommends --dry-run Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies...
The following 5 NEW packages are going to be installed: MPlayer kernel-default-6.1.8-1.1 kernel-firmware-nvidia-gsp-G06 nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default python310-pyheif
The following package requires a system reboot: kernel-default-6.1.8-1.1
5 new packages to install. Overall download size: 223.6 MiB. Already cached: 0 B. After the operation, additional 349.3 MiB will be used.
Note: System reboot required. Continue? [y/n/v/...? shows all options] (y): n poppies:~ #
So, it is just itching to install those things without a specific request.
Well, yesterday I asked for your repository list and package list, to find out where those nvidia packages are coming from. So I'll ask in a different manner: do you have the nvidia repository active? If so, remove it. If not, taboo (use YaST) the nvidia packages it want to install. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
