font 'fixed'?

Hello Linux folkz, Just today my X server 3.3.6 crashed with the fatal error: Couldn't open default font 'fixed' errno = 111 I couldn't figure out what that default font 'fixed' is. I uncommented a couple of font lines in /etc/XF86Config and everything went back to normal. Could somebody tell me please what font name is associated with 'fixed' font. Many thanks in advance.
