To continue, I had a reply off list from John Lamb which pointed me towards the header files. I checked /usr/lib/qt-2.2.4/include and there are 10 files each starting qext whereas /usr/lib/qt-qt2.2.3/include has 298 files with the suffix .h.
Obviously something is missing. I installed all the qt files from the suse ftp kde2.1 sub directories apart from qt experimental.
Could anyone point me towards the package for the header files or indeed check their own installation of 7.1, updated through the ftp to KDE2.1.
Since I don't have 7.1, I don't know exactly what is in the QT RPM. My guess is that it only contains the libraries, and not the header files, etc. required for developing programs. You need the equivalent of the qt-devel RPM for QT 2.2.4. My advice would be to download the source for the QT libraries and compile them yourself.
