On Wed, 15 Aug 2001 20:08:28 -0700 Hello Tom from Lourens: " Hello: Tried to use symantec's ghost program to copy entire linux hard " drive to a second identical hard drive. Nope, didn't work. What's the " fundamental concept, here? The second hard drive was simply " reformatted, " with nothing on it. The first is SuSE7.1Pro, without any other OS's. " Just " seems like one could do that. Thanks, Tom " Last time that I tried this (Ghost 2001 with 2.2.14 kernel) I found that I had to re-install my GRUB (the equivalent of LILO). I did find that some symlinks had not been copied. I suggest that you use Linux utils and take a look at GNU Parted. It is a little slower (than Ghost) to use but I have never had problems with the integrity of my data. wrt GNU Parted, I downloaded the floppy image and did the cloning after booting from this boot floppy.
