I have always used the updated mantel/ kernels from SuSE, but as I need the EXT3 updates badly, I have no choice but to download kernel sources from www.kernel.org, as the mantel versions do not include these yet.
Is there any obvious / serious reason not to use the www.kernel.org versions on SuSE systems (7.2 and 8.0)
I would prefer to stick with the mantel/kernels but SuSE is not merging kernel sources with www.kernel.org very often.
If you go to the kernel sources sources (!!), i.e., the src.rpm file, you can see the SuSE patches and then apply them yourself to a stock kernel. Even if they're a version behind, they'll probably either work or fail to apply. And you can apply them selectively. That's a very unofficial answer, of course. Paul
