So what are the error messages in demesg?
I'm guessing that the driver i have (downloade dfrom the ALSA web site) isn't compatible with my version of Suse Linux??? Note that I'm running the 32 bit version of Suse Linux on my 64 bit system if that makes a difference.
I have never had a problem. If it builds with you kernel it should work fine. However, I don't have a 64 bit system so YMMV.
I've also loaded the AC97 driver for my onboard sound card but I'm trying to set up both sound systems and switch back and forth between them. Is this do-able?
Don't know, try asking on the ALSA list. Charles -- "Computers may be stupid, but they're always obedient. Well, almost always." -- Larry Wall (Open Sources, 1999 O'Reilly and Associates)
