I agree with having the buttons and banners on PNG format. IMO, the problem is with GIF you don't have a full alpha channel, so the borders can't look antialiased. What if your website doesn't have a white background? If you could take banners in PNG format, you could mix them with the background of your website and then save them in GIF, JPEG or whatever format you use. It would also be specially nice to have them available in SVG or another vector graphics format, that way you could resize them to fit your needs, for example to put them as the last image in a column of your website. You could just convert them yourself. But be aware that the last GIF patent expired about a week ago.
