Have you tried starting the fam daemon? /etc/init.d/fam start
Could you tell how fam could help. Pin only gives following info. Is it worth to install it? --------------------------- Fam is a file alteration monitoring service. With it you can receive signals when files are created or changed. ----------------------------
How it would help? Well, his problem was that his desktop wasn't seeing new files created or old files deleted, so it didn't refresh. fam is a program that tells other programs when files are created or deleted. It is one of two ways kde uses to monitor files, the other way (dnotify) is more or less automatic so since nothing at all was happening I assumed fam was for him, and apparently it worked. Is it worth installing? Well, if you need some way to monitor file creation and deletion then it's worth it. If you don't then it's not :) It's a very nice tool with lots of uses, but if you already get the automatic refresh of the kde desktop then you at least don't need it for that purpose.
