Hi,
How can I upgrade to KDE 4.8 without breaking the system. I am running

I would like to try it for 11.4 as well, and I see the directory for > doing so.
My question is: Is it Time Yet?

How stable is 4.8
i have been using 4.8 for the last few days now, three or four, and hardly notice any difference to 4.7. everything looks the same, except dolphin, which looks better, and nothing broke for me. haven't seen any negative reports on forums or mailing lists either, after the first few days, when some dependencies weren't in place yet.
if you're using kamil2 already there shouldn't be any migration issues. otherwise, migrating from kmail->kmail2 still doesn't seem to work as it should, according to people's complaints. i've seen some posts saying that akonadi/nepomuk related things were using 100% CPU again, but for me that got solved easily by killing the processes in question and/or running "akonadictl restart".
some bugs & crashes depend on hardware configuration or software choices, but in general i think 4.8 is better and not less stable than 4.7. not offering any guarantee though...
Using the repo you advised created MANY conflicts when I ran zypper dup --from KDE_4-8. Finally gave up after 7 or 8. Apparently not everything has been brought up to date yet. Tom -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
