I have a problem with HPLIP.
I tried to install hplip-3.9.8.run and source hplip-3.9.8.tar.gz from the http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html website. It installed after a dependency libgphoto2-devel was installed. I also tried using the YaST installation of the package. After the installation, "sudo hp-setup" did not work.
Could someone tell me where the HPLIP.ppd is please. After installing the HPLIP package, my HP LaserJet 5 (with JetDirect) printer does not work any more.
The Device URI Model "hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4100_series?serial=-- HP Deskjet F4100 series" works well with the previous PPD. I did not change anything or install it with HPLIP.
I need a working PPD for the HP LaserJet 5. The existing ones do not work any more since a recent openSUSE update. I cannot say what changed, but the PPD's for this printer does not work any more. It has worked for years with previous openSUSE and SuSE Linux distros.
:-) Al Why do you install from source? In repository Because the YaST install did not work when I called hp-setup. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/, you find hplip 3.9.8 ready for openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, SLE_10 and SLE_11 - and Factory, of course ;-) Add the repository to your repo list, and chose to install hplip (your manual installation will not show up in YaST, since it was alongside the rpm system). I installed the repository you gave.
I shows up as "Printing"
URL: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.1/
Category: YUM
When I look in YaST afterwards, I see the following for hplip:
Alternate Version
Installed Version
Version:
3.9.8-15.pm.27.1
3.9.8-15.pm.27.1
OK. then switch to the "versions" tab and select a version that is not from packman but from the Printing repository. The icon in front of hplip should change to "update". [...]
Now I have HPLIP installed, but cannot run hp-setup. The error is:
sudo hp-setup root's password: error: HPMUDEXT could not be loaded. Please check HPLIP installation.
:-( Al
I'm running hplip-3.9.8-15.pm.27.1 (hr-hm) an get "segmentation fault". But I can use YaST as well as http://localhost:631 to set up my printers. Just changed the packman version to that from the openSUSE build service... Still "segmentation fault". Maybe something with Python, I wouldn't know. But YaST and the CUIPS web interface still work.
