.mcop* .dcop* and Martian invasion

I deleted the .mcop and .dcop stuff out of /tmp the other day. Whe I restart kdm my connection is full of martian source. A PPP1 interface gets created and my cd palyer no long works. Also now getting a sh:nmblookup :command not found truning up on my console. I can connect if I use init 4 startx But I miss the CDplayer. Did I delete the wrong files, or not enough files? Any clues on getting init 5 functional again? My wife wants to login.
