Well, perhaps I was mistaken about this, but I really don't think so. I seem to remember specifying this video card for a customer once; after it was installed and configured, the XiG people I talked to blamed it's non-working status on faulty hardware, and that the VX1 (or whatever card I spec'ed) was indeed supported. Something smells funny here, and it just might be me. :)

You have to understand that XiG makes an X server and XFree86 makes an X server; only one can run at a time. With the XiG product, you will still be able to run most if not all of your standard X11 applications seemlessly. The only exceptions I can think of are things like Qt/KDE's support of the XFree86 Render extension, which firstly means that anti-aliased fonts will not be possible, at least through this means. I cannot say that XiG's X server is any faster or more stable than XFree86-4, but benchmarking may prove them right. I *can* say, with great authority, that XFree86-3 was indeed *MUCH* slower and much less stable than XiG's product with the same hardware, application software, and Linux kernel versions. In my experience, XiG vs. XF4.1 is a tossup, with a few caveats. Their OpenGL product is a different story...much faster/better support for many 3D-capable video cards, full OpenGL certification, and point-and-click installation. I just wish I could remember what card we installed on that box...this is really getting on my nerves... ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
