I installed 10.1 from the DVD via SUSE yesterday. Xgl is a GREAT work in progress, however, it's NOT ready for "production" use yet. There are a number of bugs in Xgl/Compiz. Kpackage, for example, renders the ability to minimize or close any window with the "corner" icons useless....no icons there any longer. Yast responds strange at times, windows don't come to the forefront with a move of the mouse as they should, and there IS a performance hit with Xgl. The game X2 The Threat won't run. Other 3D games claim there's no 3D graphics care available but will run anyway, I couldn't get a Konsole window to show typed chrs...no matter what options I chose, and no transparent Konsole. Plus, there's some oddities of windows not resizing, etc. I rewrote my scripts so that Xgl and Compiz don't run......waiting till it's solid. The upside, however, is that at least with the new nVidia driver, there IS a NICE performance gain! I'm using a GeForce FX5300 card with 128MB of RAM - a PCI Express 16X. Now it really cooks! For comparison sake, I know how "quick" XP is on this box, and SUSE 10.0 is DEFINITELY much quicker in ALL video related tasks. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 6.x
