Lucent SuSE

Has anyone managed to get a Lucent chipset modem to work in SuSE 8.2. I Had it working in Redhat no worries, just downloaded the driver, installed it and whammo. I can get the driver installed in SuSE 8.2 but when I try to dial in it freezes X, so if anyone has gotten one of these cheap ass modems to work, can they let me know what they did.
