Thank you. I haven't been able to get it to work --- yet :-)
When I start the vncviewer on the windows client I get prompted for the session password. After entering it, all I get is a window that is the grey crosshatch background, the "x" cursor, and nothing else --- No KDM login. :-(
I am getting in the log window in the local xserver window, the message shown below, but I haven't found anything on that error yet:
"Nov 25 18:06:20 russte08 kdm[1633]: Cannot read from config reader".
i couldn't get it to work with kdm either, but it worked in xdm on the first try. I just put :1 local /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvnc :1
in /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers, and changed DisplayManager.pidFile: in /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config so it could run at the same time as kdm. Then I just ran xdm from the command line and everything worked. I have no idea why it doesn't work in kdm :(
Hmm, still running SuSE Linux 7.2 with XFree86 4.2.0 (update), kernel 2.4.18(mantel src), and KDE 2.1.1(update). It seems to run great with kdm from kde2. (tested on a local machine over it's own IP) If you need some logging or files to compare just name them and I'll try to help... Anything other cool stuff you can do with vnc?????
