what program are runinig

Hi sorry to be a worry, Still have problems with Open office works all right when root user freezes up as normal user, I Keep getting told the program is running (when it is not) how can I check and close, I was looking at the command ps + kill but did not get very far with it. (and all this started because I stuck the program in the wrong directory tree) -- From Eric
