In one of my less brilliant moves, I thought I would try "system update" in Yast on 10.2 on my Toshiba P35 laptop. The kernel was updated to 2.6.22.2-ccj52-default. The first major problem is that the updated kernel will not load the atheros mad-wifi driver. The kernel module is still there under /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko but does not exist under 2.6.22.2-ccj52-default. Yast shows mad-wifi installed, but the ath_pci.ko module cannot be loaded with either modprobe or insmod:
10:25 Rankin-P35a:/home/david # modprobe ath_pci FATAL: Module ath_pci not found. 10:25 Rankin-P35a:/home/david # insmod /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko': -1 Invalid module format
That's like trying to run an Windows 95 driver in Windows XP.
I just checked again and it seems Madwifi (ath_pci) finally updated their module to 2.6.22, so I can finally build it. Be patient.
