Hi there everyone, We're looking to set up a videoconferencing link here, and it would be great if I could get people's opinions of some things. First off is the speed of internet connection. Currently we're on a 56k dialup link... which clearly isn't going to be able to cope with the demands of videoconferencing. Question here: will ISDN do the job well, or will we have to look for something with higher bandwidth? If so, what would you suggest? Unfortunately we're going to have to wait a while to get ADSL in our area, and I'm not sure about a cable modem, but it is a possibility. Second - since the other users are currently using Windows as their OS of 'choice' ;-) they will probably end up using MS NetMeeting for the actual videoconferencing. By the time this videoconferencing system is set up, there should be a Linux firewall system providing the gateway to the 'net. I am aware that it is possible to get NetMeeting to go through the firewall, so this shouldn't be a problem. Eventually, however, it would be nice to use a Linux based videoconferencing package... so I'm wondering if anyone knows of such a beast? Preferably it will be compatible with NetMeeting, since there is one computer where I can't do anything about the installed OS. Number three (I almost forgot this one) - what sort of hardware would you suggest for this? By hardware I mean camera and capture card, rather than processor, etc. At the moment we do have a camera and capture card set up on the remote end (the one I have no control over) but we are still to buy the kit for this end. It would be great if your suggestions were compatible with Linux, of course... If you have any other comment or something you think should be discussed that I've forgotten about, feel free to shout out ;-) Thanks in advance, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
