Jim Check /etc/ppp for a file called pap-secrets. If it isn't there make one like this: # Secrets for authentication using PAP # # client server secret IP addresses your login name Your ISP's name your login password N/A 3 fields required Ok, now add to /etc/ppp/options +pap That should, as I recall, handle it. Also read the PPP-HOWTO usually located in /usr/doc/faq/howto. The above info is there and the above is from memory. wayne Subject: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Connection Problems Date: Fri, Feb 06, 1998 at 05:11:08PM -0800 In reply to:jim seiberling Quoting jim seiberling(nwobone@hotmail.com):
Hello Everyone: I just bought a copy of SuSE 4.4.1. and after a successful initial install <grin>, i still have the same problem that i have under Slackware: I cannot connect to my isp. Under Win95, i can't even connect using hyper terminal (the wife uses Wank95, on a hd all her own). After contacting netspaceonline, they told me that they are using pap (i assume it's server initiated, not command oriented). I can't get minicom to do anything, and i am so new to linux in general, that i don't know of another client to use for connection. I have access to a company that i KNOW uses Linux, but they haven't given me any information as to when i can join them, and netspaceonline is refusing to help, or so it seems. I hate windows, but must use it to even get my email. Any suggestions? jim seiberling -- Linux RULES, windoze Drools!!!!
