Hello :-)
on my kde plasma 5 (42.3), I can drag an executable of any application from Dolphin and get an icon that I can click to open the app.

but afterward, I can't figure where is the linked application. a right click only allow to add a keyboard shortcut.
As you can see, the plasma desktop is *not* the usual desktop. The usual one, ~/Desktop, is the clear rectangle with "download" in it, what I look for are the icons under (vuescan, jddlibreoffice...)
where are stored these "icons"? how can I guess where is the linked app?
what does the file which appears on the desktop contain?
