Installing Type1 fonts in 8.0

Hi all, I have done a search for this in SDB and in the mail archives and found only manual installation instructions for 8.1, using mkfontscale and mkfontdir. The thing is, mkfontscale is not available in SuSE 8.0! I have the procedure for installing those Type1 fonts in SuSE 8.1 and I am supposing the only difference is the commands you run to create the font.scale files. Would someone point me in the right direction please? I do know you can do this through YaST2 control centre as well, using the Font Installation program, but I have user wanting to do it manually.
